Just for Fun, Rotary Dialer!

Hi All,

Just for fun I decided to create an old fashioned rotary dialer for Nokia 5800 XM.

Its fully functional and uses the vibrate of the phone to great effect.

Once you've entered your number you can hit the "Call" button to place a call.

Try it, trust me, you'll be glad the digital age happened :)

Please download the sis file here

Cheers
Jamie

Update: At the request of a few people I have uploaded a short video of the app runnning.

Nice.

After much fiddling about I realised that the vibrate effects only happen when the vibrate alert is active - not the vibrate feedback.

Hello. I found your software to be promising, but I feel it's usefulness would be improved tremendously if the following were done:
a) Allow some way to add the signs plus (+), asterisk (*) and grid (#). The reason is that a lot of dial functions use those signs. Perhaps you can put a function on the middle of the dialer to cycle thru each sign as it is pushed.
b) Allow the software to replace entirely the "Dial" function on main menu of the 5800

Hello Jamie,
I found this rotary dialer really cool! Would like to talk to you about something which is business related but cannot find your e-mail or anywhere to send you a private message. Could you please get in touch with me via this e-mail: spn.general@symbian.com?
Cheers,
Leticia

Hi Leticia,

I have responded to your email but not sure if they are getting through?

My personal email is 30dirtybirds@googlemail.com, I would be very proud for you to demo rotary dialer at the CTIA.

Thanks Jamie.

He, he - this is very very cool. I wonder if it was possible to implement this as a standard input module - ie. where you can select Handwriting, Mini QWERTY etc. Imagine how cool it would be to learn how to type SMS's on a rotary dialer :)

would it be possible to get the source code for the rotary dialer so i can create just a basic dialer to use alongside gdesk???

It would be great if you add the classic dialer sound as well.

Also add some effect to know that our finger has touched the end point so that half dialing is not done.

I tested this on a Sony Ericsson Satio and it worked perfectly. Obviously it should, given that it's S60V5 as well, but just thought I'd mention it.
